Seen in Spain

When you visit a small Spanish town called Haro, in the La Rioja region of North of Spain, the last thing you expect to see in the local bar is a reference to Thurlaston. But, that's exactly what happened to Thurlaston resident Nicki Donaghy.

Haro is a small town of less than 12,000 people  in the northwest of La Rioja province in northern Spain. It is known for its fine red wine and every year the Haro Wine Festival is held where locals hold a wine battle (Wikipedia).

The bar also had pictures of posters relating to whetstone magpies and Sileby.

Can anyone throw light on this mystery?

Reynard the Fox visits Enderby

Place to Grow Open Day - Reynard the Fox

Two FREE family performances about the adventurous fox Reynard will take place at Blaby District Council’s A Place to Grow Open Day in Enderby on Saturday 22 July.

In partnership with Centre Stage, Fabularium and the Arts Council, the fun family show brings traditional storing telling style blending puppetry, live music and song. Reynard the Fox is the loveable rogue of the forest but, caught red-handed, the trickster’s luck just might be running out …

Can a silver tongue and a twinkling eye save the rascal’s red tail?

Performances will take place at 12.30pm and 2.30pm at the A Place to Grow Garden at Mill Lane, Enderby, LE19 4BX. Families are advised to bring their own picnic blanket to enjoy the performances on the grass area.

This year’s popular annual open day at the A Place to Grow garden will be from 11am-3pm, and include a children’s garden hunt, garden games, planting activities, and the sale of plants and produce from the garden.

There will also be a BBQ, cake, refreshments and an ice cream van on offer. All proceeds will go towards the running of the garden.

Supporting positive health and wellbeing, A Place to Grow is a free to use sustainable community garden. The project encourages people to learn new skills by producing and eating healthy food, being physically active, getting involved in the community and meeting new people in a friendly, informal and safe environment.

The site is aimed at anyone with mental and physical health related problem who wants to improve their Health and Wellbeing.

The Elephant and Castle will have new landlord and landlady from 3rd January 2017 when Paul & Lisa Clayton take over the tenancy. They say:

We are really looking forward to sharing with you a warm and friendly welcome, and also becoming actively involved in the local community. We hope to develop, with your input, the best village pub in the area and one we can be really proud to be part of.

We will provide a great range of traditional cask and draft beers and ciders, an comprehensive wine selection and may be a few new “tipples” for you all to try. Shortly after we open, we plan to offer an extensive home cooked and affordable evening menu with a “Lunch Club” menu available Tuesday-Friday and plan to provide Sunday Lunches, from mid-January.

We’ve got lots of great ideas & plans for events and activities and it would be good if you could pop in to see us as we would love to hear your ideas too!

See you on the New Year !! – Paul & Lisa
