From the Carnival Committee
Thurlaston Carnival Committee held their AGM on Thursday 12th November in Thurlaston village hall, when they were able to thank all their helpers, and to present cheques to the following lucky recipients to help them with their funds; Chapel Youth Club, School, Village Hall, Flower Festival, Downs Heart Group, Tots R Us and the village Coffee Club.
We were also able to inform the village that we will be holding the OAP Christmas Lunch in December as usual. We also named the date for next year's carnival, which will be its 40th birthday! On June 12th 2010, which will no doubt be a fabulous day!

LCC advise that Earl Shilton Road will be closed between Riverside Cottages and Normanton Hall from 14th September for approximately 7 days.
I assume that by Normanton Hall the LCC mean Normanton Hall Farm - given the position of the current works.

From: The Earl Shilton Action Group
There was a suggestion that a travellers site could be sited opposite the new wood on Thurlaston Lane going towards Watery gate.
The council said earlier in the year that it was no longer their prefered site but The Earl Shilton Action Group now feel that it could come back in to the equation due to othere sites being objected to. We need to get objections in by April 6th as this is the only oppurtunity. We feel the council has lulled everyone in to a false sense of security.
I know we only have a short time but every letter of objection counts.
Please look at our web site which has some sample letters.

From Leics CC...
TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE OF WATERY GATE LANE, THURLASTON.
Leicestershire County Council has granted the temporary closure of the above road.
The closure is required at the ford.
The road will be closed from 14th January 2009 for approximately 12 months.
This is due to a damaged depth gauge at the Ford.
During the closure the alternative route will be via Pingle Lane, Stanton Lane, Huncote Road, Thurlaston Lane and vice versa.
12 months to mend a damaged depth gauge? The world's gone mad!

There will be a public meeting at The Plough Inn, Earl Shilton at 2pm on Friday 16th January to discuss possible proposals for a travellers' site on Thurlaston Lane, Earl Shilton.
From Thurlaston Parish Council:
I am contacting you to make Thurlaston Online aware that Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council are considering a green field site on Thurlaston Lane, Earl Shilton (Thurlaston Boundary) for use as a large travellers site (60 caravans?).
Although no information has been officially received by the Parish Council we have been speaking with Earl Shilton Town Council. I am able to confirm that there will be a meeting on Friday 16th January at 2pm in 'The Plough' in Earl Shilton, where David Treddinick (MP), Borough Councillors, Town and PC Councillors will attend, plus the BBC will be there. Everyone will then go on to do a site visit afterwards. This meeting is open to the public.
I would be extremely grateful if you would advertise it on Thurlaston Online.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me or Cllr Alan Greenwood (Earl Shilton - 446882).
Many thanks.

Clerk To Thurlaston Parish Council
